PROGRAM FAQs

Why should I skate in college?

Being a student-athlete offers numerous benefits, including community involvement, teamwork, and skill development for post-college life. Transitioning to college can be challenging, but joining a team provides immediate support and a sense of belonging. Athletes become like family, supporting each other on and off the ice. In addition to camaraderie, college athletics enhance time management and leadership skills, making the transition to post-college careers smoother. We encourage our skaters to take on leadership roles, building strong resumes and personal growth.

Who can skate for UNH synchronized skating?

In order to skate for the UNH synchronized skating team you must be a full time UNH student.  Students enrolled in our graduate and law programs are also welcome to be part of our team!

Can I still join if I've never done synchro before?

Of course! No matter if you are a seasoned synchro skater or new to the sport, there is a place for you on the UNHSST.  Our coaches work very hard to ensure that new synchronized skaters are able to quickly learn and pick up synchro concepts, so they are able to be confident in their synchronized skating skills.

How much does joining the team cost?

UNH synchronized skating is funded with a combination of university funds, dues, donations, and fundraising.  Dues for new skaters are $2000/year and dues for returning skaters are $1500/year.  All gear, travel, and competition fees are covered through dues so skaters should not expect any additional costs throughtout the year.

How is the UNHSST involved on campus?

The UNH synchronized skating team is one of our many Campus Recreation sport clubs that we have here on campus.  However, our team does much more than just represent the UNH at competitions.  When we're not busy practicing, the UNHSST spends time together as a team and takes advantage of fundraising opportunities such as working as ice girls for our NCAA Division I Men's Hockey Team.
